Sidewalk Replacement Program
A contractor removed and replaced 49,091.19 square feet of sidewalks in 2008 under the City's annual Sidewalk Replacement Program. This program normally begins in mid-April and continues until December, weather permitting.
City Facility Improvements
Utilizing the skills of City personnel, several building improvement and maintenance projects were completed this past year at significant cost saving to the City. Projects included:

* Remodel at Police Department
* Oversee Street Barn Electrical
* Work Landfill Work
* Worked on new Salt Building
* Worked on Storage Area @ Ambulance
* Built new Impound Building
* Worked on Caboose
* Remodel Break Room at City Hall
* Built Catch Basins
* Built Box Culvert for North Avenue
* Built Break Room for Water Department
One full-time employee is kept busy maintaining and repairing all of the City’s structures. He also assists with other repairs such as concrete work, storm sewer repair, fences, raising storm grates, etc. and assist other department as needed.
In addition to routine work done by this division of the department, the following was also completed:

These employees are responsible for maintaining the City’s vehicles and equipment. This department works on everything from Police cars to refuse trucks to lawnmowers to bulldozers and everything in between. Proper maintenance of equipment assures continued protection of the City’s investment, safe-equipment for employees’ use, and projects a positive image to the taxpayers. Computers are being utilized to keep track of maintenance and repairs completed, and schedule regular preventive maintenance. This will assure all equipment is maintained in a timely manner, reducing breakdowns and associated costs.
These employees are also called upon to fabricate special tools or equipment for specific jobs and have proven to be quite creative in recycling or reusing materials in order to save money or labor for the City. If any department has an equipment problem they can count on this Division to help find a solution. These employees are doing an excellent job of finding ways to save money on repairs and strive to help all of the departments of the City however possible.
