Welcome

Welcome to the City of Moberly's web site! We are glad you are here and we hope you will find information that is helpful to you.

City’s Highlights

Moberly, also known as the "Magic City", is one of Missouri's more progressive and historic cities. It is progressive in the sense that we a park system and walking trails that surpass those in much larger cities. There are 1,600 acres of developed recreational parks.

Industrial & Economic Development

Moberly is the home to major industries offering employment to thousands of people within the City and the surrounding area. Our City is home to four nationally recognized leasing companies. Major employers include GE, Goodyear, Everlast (the boxing and sporting goods company), Scholastic Books, Orscheln Farm and Home National Headquarters to name a few. Moberly also includes two of the original SWB designated fiber parks in the State.

Communications & Transportation

Moberly also has 20 miles of local exchange fiber cable within the City. Most of Moberly can be served with fiber, which allows for high-speed internet access and on-line video conferencing. Moberly is the home to the Moberly Area Community College, Central Christian College and offers an excellent public school system. The Magic City is also the main line for the Norfolk Southern Railroad. In addition, Moberly is home to the Moberly Regional Medical Center. A new four-lane highway connects Moberly with Interstate 70 just 30 miles away and helps strengthen the City's position as a regional retail center. Moberly is approximately thirty (30) minutes from the University of Missouri-Columbia. You can visit the Moberly Economic Development Corporation website for more information.

Structural Improvement

Water & Sewer

Currently, Moberly is undergoing extensive infrastructure improvements with its water, sewer and street systems. The sewer project includes the separation of our decade old combined wastewater and stormwater lines. We also will be updating our sewer plant. Multi-million dollar work on the city's water system from the intake at Sugar Creek Lake to comprehensive improvements at the water plant, are underway or were recently completed.

City Streets

City street renovations have been underway for a couple of years with visible evidence of a newly modernized transportation network. These include additional hiking and biking trails added to an already extensive trail system. A 36,000 square foot YMCA was recently constructed. Moberly's airport is being upgraded to a Regional facility by the State with the current extension of it's main runway to 5,000 feet.

Historic Characters

Moberly is historic because it was home of internationally known authors Jack Conroy and Elizabeth Siefert. Cotton Fitzsimmons spent a large portion of his career coaching at Moberly Area Community College before becoming a National Sports Figure. Moberly is also historic because of its past and present position as a railroad hub. Moberly is the home of America's great Army General, Omar Bradley. Because of its location as a crossroads in North Central Missouri, Moberly is the site of many great speeches from national and statewide political leaders. Within the City is an impressive display of stately Victorian homes.
