City Auditorium Improvements

Between 2012 and 2018, several projects updated the original boiler, rooftop A/C units, and LED lighting on the main floor and stage. The last rooftop A/C unit will be placed in March 2018. We continue to look for opportunities to update lighting and equipment to modernize the facility and reduce our operating expenses. The updates so far have resulted in energy savings of approximately $4,000 per year.

Additional projects are being undertaken to ensure the building remains in proper maintenance. A significant tuck-pointing and brick replacement project occurred in late spring 2016. In 2017, staff repainted the lower white block and sealed the building along the sidewalk.

In January 2018, contractors were hired to do plaster and paint repair in the balcony, repairing damage and replacing the gray paint with white to brighten the balcony. In January staff also used a new technique and chemical to strip the old terrazzo floors in the main lobby and the landings, bringing back the original rich color and gold inlay. They will continue using this technique on the terrazzo stairways to bring new life to old floors.

Later in 2018, we hope to hire contractors to redo the floors in the basement, moving to polished concrete and creating a nicer space for renters. As we move forward over the next 2-3 years, we hope to do additional renovations to the basement including repairing door frames, removing much of the drop ceiling, and updating the lighting.
