Valuable Community Service

Day-to-Day Operation

Water and sewer service is a critical service for any community. The Distribution and Collection (D & C) Department is the front line in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of these assets. They work in all weather, and at all hours to achieve the goal of uninterrupted service to our customers.

Underground

Water and sewer lines are buried underground, so the work done isn’t visible. The condition of the pipes aren't visible. Blockages in sewer mains aren’t known until something backs up somewhere.

Duties

The work done by the D & C Department is both reactive when something goes wrong, and proactive, by anticipating problems before they happen.

  • Assist with maintenance and repair activities at Water Treatment Plant and Waste Water Treatment Plant.
  • Maintain on-call status 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
  • Maintenance and repair of fire hydrants.
  • Maintenance and repair of water valves.
  • Maintenance of facilities and equipment.
  • Provide assistance to other City departments as needed
  • Construction, maintenance and repair of 100 miles of water mains and 87 miles of sewer mains
  • Routine and emergency cleaning and repair of sewer mains to maintain flow and capacity, including closed circuit television inspection to assess condition of pipes and service connections.
